For some, death comes quickly, suddenly - an accident, a gunshot, a catastrophe. For others, death comes slowly - like a fire going out slowly, maybe from illness or disease. The Church in Sardis was dying a slow death. Its life was largely gone. There were still some hot coals, but they were about to die. The Lord calls his children who live in hidden deadness to repent, strengthen and overcome.
