The New Testament uses several words for the person and the responsibilities of those who lead local churches. We find elders, bishops, overseers, pastors and shepherds mentioned in our English translations. Peter gives instruction for how those responsibilities are to be carried out, and for how everyone is to conduct themselves in the local church.
