In the beatitude, “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth,” the word “meek,” could also be translated “humble.” It may seem counter-intuitive to think of the “meek or humble” inheriting the earth. Humility does not seem to be the quality that will advance careers and conquer nations. But Peter tells us that it is essential for Christians, both before one another, and before God.
